Motorcycle Repair Section - Street Bikes |
|
Street bike fairings are usually made of ABS, ABS/PC blends, or Nylon blends. These are all easy to repair using a variety of methods. They are also easy to refinish and paint. These plastics are easily weldable using our 5600HT Mini-Weld Model 6 Plastic Welder. Adhesives also stick to them readily, so they can be repaired with our PlastiFix Rigid Plastic Repair Kit or our 2020 SMC Hardset Epoxy. Many times it's preferable to do a combination -- weld the crack and reinforce with adhesive. Click on one of the links below for technical information on each repair system.
Street bikes also use many polypropylene or TPO plastic parts on things such as airboxes, ducting, shields, etc. You can usually recognize these plastics by their slightly greasy feel. They are also usually molded in black on street bikes. These are difficult to refinish because paint does not stick well to them. However, they are easy to repair with our FiberFlex universal welding rod. We have two welding kits for repairing these types of plastics.
